Katie Taylor is an Irish professional boxer and former football player who was born on July 2, 1986. She holds the WBA title since 2017, is a two-weight world champion, and is now the undisputed lightweight champion. Katie Taylor Early career
At the age of twelve in 1998, Taylor started boxing. At St Fergal’s Boxing Club, her father trained her and her two elder brothers, Lee and Peter. At the 2005 European Amateur Championships in Tonsberg, Norway, Taylor achieved his first notable victory. In the 60 kg lightweight class final, she defeated Eva Wahlström of Finland to win the gold medal.
Taylor defeated reigning world champion Tatiana Chalaya of Russia to win her second consecutive gold medal at the 2006 European Amateur Championships in Warsaw, Poland. She also took home the Best Boxer trophy for the competition. Taylor’s first European Union gold medal came in 2008, when she competed in Liverpool, England, in August. 2009 saw Taylor defend her European Union championship. Denitsa Elisayeva of Bulgaria, the tournament’s home-country favorite, was defeated by her in Pazardzhik in July. Taylor won her fourth consecutive world title on May 19, 2012, in Qinhuangdao, China, at the 2012 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship.
Taylor defeated Yana Allekseevna of Azerbaijan on November 24 to claim her fifth consecutive lightweight title at the 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in South Korea. She won by final scores of 40-36, 39-37, and 39-37. Taylor defeated Frenchwoman Estelle Mosely to win the lightweight medal at the first-ever European Games on June 27, 2015, in Azerbaijan. Katie Taylor Professional career
On November 26, 2016, at the Wembley Arena in London, Taylor won her first professional fight via technical knockout in the third round. On December 10, 2016, in Manchester Arena, she competed in her second professional match against Viviane Obenauf. In March 2017, she achieved two additional victories, defeating Milena Koliva via eight-round PTS and Monica Gentili via fifth-round TKO.
On December 13, 2017, at London’s York Hall, Jessica McCaskill was the opponent for her first championship defense. The game was won by Taylor. On November 2, 2019, at the Manchester Arena, Taylor will fight WBO female junior-welterweight champion Christina Linardatou after choosing to climb his weight. Taylor won by a UD margin of 97-93, 97-93, and 96-94 after dominating the final two rounds.
On November 14, 2020, Taylor will compete against Miriam Gutierrez at London’s SSE Arena to defend her titles. At the conclusion of the fourth round, Taylor used a left hook to knock her opponent to the ground, earning a unanimous decision win from the judges. In front of 20,000 spectators at Leeds, England’s Headingley Rugby League Stadium, Taylor defeated Jennifer Han. On each of the three scorecards, Taylor clearly triumphed (100-89)
The following fight for Taylor was Firuza Sharipova on December 11, 2021, at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool. Sharipova was decisively defeated by Taylor.
On April 30, 2022, Taylor faced off against Amanda Serrano, the seven-division world champion, to defend her uncontested lightweight titles. With a split decision points result, Taylor kept her titles. Eddie Hearn announced that the Taylor-Serrano rematch would take place in Dublin on May 20, 2023.
