Predicted Rangers XI to face Celtic in the Scottish Premiership

Rangers have enjoyed a consistent run of form in the Scottish Premiership over the last month or so and the Gers are yet to drop a single point since the 2-1 defeat to arch-rivals Celtic on the final matchday of March, having won each of their last five games in the league.

Steven Gerrard’s side are currently 9 points adrift of Celtic atop the standings and the Gers are going to fall short of their rivals in the title race once again but they will have a chance to get one over the Hoops when they welcome their bitter rivals for the Old Firm derby on Sunday.

Rangers won the derby 1-0 back in December at Ibrox before Celtic came back to beat them 2-1 late in March and the Gers will need to be at the top of their game to halt Neil Lennon’s unbeaten run as the manager.

Team News

Rangers are going to be without their first-choice shot-stopper Allan McGregor, who picked up a red card in the 1-0 victory over Hibernian last week, while Graham Dorrans is back in training from his long-term knee injury but he is unlikely to play a part in the derby.

Veteran centre-back Gareth McAuley is out for the season with a hamstring problem, while Jamie Murphy is another long-term absentee for the Hoops.

Manager: Steven Gerrard

Formation: 4-3-3

Predicted XI

1. Wes Foderingham (GK)

The former Fulham and Crystal Palace man has played second-fiddle to McGregor between the sticks but he will be Rangers’ best bet to fill in the void left by red card incident.

2. James Tavernier (RB)

He wasn’t at his sparkling best in the last game but he has been a key source of goals and assists and Rangers will need him to rise to the occasion if they are to get the better of Celtic.

3. Nikola Katic (CB)

The Croatian has been preferred to Joe Worrall at the heart of the defence in recent weeks and that might continue this Sunday as well.

4. Conor Goldson (CB)

He put in another solid shift at the back against Hibernian and should retain his position for the derby game.

5. Jon Flanagan (LB)

The former Liverpool man did a good job on the left-hand side last week and there is no reason why Gerrard should bench him for this one.

6. Steven Davis (CM)

The Northern Irish veteran has added a lot of steel and quality to Rangers’ midfield and he will be one of their key players on Sunday.

7. Glen Kamara (LCM)

The Former Sunderland man has proven himself to be an influential addition to the midfield for a bargain fee and he should continue in the starting eleven.

8. Ryan Jack (RCM)

He put in a solid shift in the 1-0 victory over Hibernian last week and is surely an undisputed starter for this one.

9. Scott Arfield (RW)

The Canadian international has been in fine form in recent weeks, including a hat-trick against Motherwell last month.

10. Ryan Kent (LW)

The Liverpool loanee has been one of the standout performers for the Gers this season and a lot will depend on how he goes about things on Sunday.
