Aston Villa Opinion: Why the Villans should sign Stephy Mavididi on loan?

According to a report from the Hull Daily Mail, Aston Villa and Leeds United are among the host of English clubs to have asked about a potential loan deal for Juventus attacker Stephy Mavididi this summer.

The 21-year-old left the Arsenal academy last summer and joined Juventus. After impressing for Juventus’ Under-23 side, he was handed his first-team debut in April in a 2-1 defeat to SPAL.

Mavididi’s string of impressive performances with the Juventus youth team has caught the attention of lots of English clubs, but Aston Villa must ensure they win the race for the young forward’s signature.

Dean Smith

The Villans have already made their presence felt in the summer transfer window with the signing of attacker Jota from arch-rivals Birmingham City. They have also completed the permanent capture of Anwar El Ghazi from Lille after the Dutchman played a key role in the club’s promotion to the top-flight. The Aston Villa fans will certainly be pleased to see their club getting their transfer business completed at the earliest of opportunities.

But Dean Smith’s main priority has to be replacing Tammy Abraham at the Villa Park, by hook or crook. Abraham spent the entirety of last season on loan at Aston Villa from Chelsea. He played a crucial role in helping the Midlands club to promotion back to the top-flight, netting 25 goals in 37 Championship appearances.

But it looks unlikely to see the 21-year-old striker don the Clarets and Blue next season due to the Blues’ potential two-window transfer window. With Abraham not joining the Villans for another campaign, Smith must replace the England international with Stephy Mavididi.

Stephy Mavididi

A centre-forward by trade, Mavididi can play anywhere across the pitch and hurt the opposition. His combination of pace, power and skill makes him very difficult to stop on his day for the defenders. The England youth international is someone who can also come from the bench and prove to be a menace for the opposition’s tired back-line.

The 21-year-old is a player with real quality and even if his loan spells with Preston North End and Charlton Athletic weren’t impressive, he could happen to be a good squad player for Smith’s Aston Villa. The Villa faithful must not hope for an instant impact from a young player like Mavididi, who failed to make the grade at Arsenal. What they can be realistic about him is his potential to change games from the bench.

Verdict

Mavididi has impressed for Juventus’ Under-23 side but the Serie A champions would be open to the idea of loaning him out this summer for quality experience.
