The Man Who Sold America: Trump and the Unravelling of the American Story, her book, was published in 2019. Reid now hosts The ReidOut on MSNBC. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, to parents from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Guyana, and she received her degree from Harvard University in 1991. She started her journalism career in South Florida in 1997, leaving her job at a business consulting firm. Twitter users copied Joy Reid’s old blog pieces from late 2017 and April 2018, when she made fun of journalists and politicians by using homosexual sex. Reid issued an apology for her “insensitive, tone-deaf, and dumb” statements in response to criticism. Reid criticised same-sex marriage in a different set of writings and said that straight people find male-to-male kissing repulsive.

Reid said that she didn’t recall publishing such posts and requested her solicitors to look into if her blog had been hacked. Wayback Machine, however, turned up no proof of hacking. Due to these tweets, the Daily Beast suspended Reid’s columns and the LGBT advocacy organisation PFLAG revoked her prize.
