September has been a wild month for Twitch. Amid its new revenue split policy announcement, Twitch streamer Jerma has shown an interest in leaving the platform.

Twitch’s updated policy announcement has taken the streaming community by shock. Among the backlash, popular streamer Jerma has stated that he will be leaving Twitch when the new policies come to effect.

Twitch has been in a complete whirlwind through the past few weeks. ItsSliker’s gambling controversy sparked several other debates, and the air seems tense amidst the streamer community on the platform. However, amidst all this, Twitch dropped its new revenue policy, stating that instead of the earlier 70-30 split, creators would now have to oblige to a 50-50 revenue split with Twitch. Furthermore, they would also have to run ads on their channels to generate revenue.

Naturally, this did not sit well with many streamers on the platform, who have expressed a desire to stream elsewhere.

Jerma says he will quit Twitch when new policies come into effect

Twitch’s revenue split policies have been widely discussed within the streaming community for some time now. However, despite the negative feedback to the 50-50 revenue split announcement, Twitch went ahead with the decision. On September 21, Twitch announced that the updated revenue policy would come to effect from June 1, 2023.

Many streamers have shared their reactions to this announcement, calling Twitch out for the same. Streamers such as Asmongold and others believe that Twitch is killing the platform with its new ad policies.

Amidst all this, popular streamer Jeremy “Jerma985” Elbertson announced on a recent livestream that he would quit the platform if he was forced to play ads on his streams.

If I am forced to run ads, on this platform, I will leave this platform. 100%. So I’m not going to be forced to run ads.

Explaining the reason behind his decision, Jerma stated:

I mean, I obviously have opinions on it, and being one of the major ones is, I don’t want to be forced to run ads. Because in my mind, a ton of people are already paying, essentially a premium to the stream. So, I don’t, ‘Oh yeah! Thanks for your, essentially, Netflix-like subscription. Here’s a s**t load of ads, everyday! I don’t want to do that. So I’m not going to.

Jerma is one of the most popular streamers on Twitch currently. He rose to fame with his Just Chatting streams on the platform, where he discusses a vast variety of topics. The streamer already has an established presence on YouTube, so it will not be surprising if he decides to switch over to the red platform if Twitch goes through with its decision.

Jerma is not the only streamer who has expressed his displeasure over this decision. Many other popular entities who have already shifted to YouTube like Dr. DisRespect and Valkyrae also expressed their disappointment with Twitch, stating that these policies were killing the platform.
