Is F1 going to stop the French and Belgian GP?

The F1 chiefs are reportedly planning to make some changes to certain races on the Formula 1 calendar in the near future and the French GP and Belgian GP are reportedly under threat.

Earlier this week, reports revealed that F1 chiefs are considering the possibility of scrapping the French GP and the Belgian GP to make room for different race venues in the near future. It is believed that the top officials are planning to exclude the two races in order to make way for the South African GP in 2023.

The French GP has not yet been added to the 2023 calendar despite the country’s contract with the F1 organization coming to an end this year. Reports suggest that due to financial reasons and a few other undisclosed reasons, the Paul Ricard circuit may not be used from next season onwards.

The iconic Belgian GP is now also under threat. According to reports, the Spa Francorchamps track may not appear on the F1 calendar in the next few years. Last season, the race in Belgium had to be cut short due to the weather as the track was completely wet and unsafe for the drivers. But that was courtesy of the unfortunate weather as fans in the arena weren’t able to get their money’s worth. The Belgian GP has been missed only six times starting since 1950.

However, F1 may opt to race in South Africa if they choose to scrap the Belgian and French GP from next year. More so, Formula 1 is also planning to make the Las Vegas strip a regular on its calendar. But the final decisions are yet to be made.
