Tottenham Hotspur player ratings vs Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur absolutely destroyed Chelsea 3-1 at the Wembley on Saturday and put an end to Maurizio Sarri’s unbeaten run as the manager.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men showed a lot of intent and dominated the Blues right from the word go with some breathtaking attacking football.

Dele Alli headed it home from Christian Eriksen’s free-kick to put the Lilywhites in the driver’s seat in the 8th-minute before Harry Kane took advantage of some sloppy defending from David Luiz to double the advantage for the home side.

Heung-Min Son scored his 50th goal in a Spurs shirt and probably his best so far as he ran past Luiz and Antonio Rudiger and beat the keeper with a clinical finish to put the final nail in Chelsea’s coffin.

Olivier Giroud found a late consolation for the Blues but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Blues from losing valuable ground on Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the table.

Tottenham Player Ratings

1. Hugo Lloris (7/10)

Didn’t have too much to do as Spurs dominated the game. Made a sharp save from range to deny Hazard in the first half and was hardly at fault for Giroud’s consolation.

2. Serge Aurier (7/10)

Up against the threat of Eden Hazard, the Ivorian rose to the occasion and barely put a foot wrong throughout the game. Made some good challenges and defended with a lot of aggression; added impetus to the attack with a few decent crosses.

3. Toby Alderweireld (7.5/10)

The Belgian put in a solid shift at the back and dealt quite well with everything that came his way.

4. Juan Foyth (6.5/10)

The youngster was a bit troubled with the movement of Alvaro Morata and could have done better to stop Giroud from scoring the consolation but it would be too harsh to criticise him for that; lucky not to have given away a penalty when he brought down Hazard inside the box.

5. Ben Davies (6.5/10)

Did exactly what he needed to do at the back and didn’t allow Willian to become too dangerous; linked up well down the right and a tidy performance overall.

6. Mousa Sissoko (8/10)

The Frenchman seems to be improving with each passing game. He did a fantastic job in midfield, cutting out the attacks with some crunching challenges and pressing the opposition off the ball; carried the ball forward with intent and contributed to the attack with some good passes.

7. Eric Dier (7.5/10)

His work was made a lot easier by the lively presence of Sissoko. Made some good tackles and stamped authority with his physicality.

8. Christian Eriksen (8/10)

A wonderful display from the Danish playmaker. He set up Alli for the first goal with wonderful delivery from the free-kick and linked up very well with the likes of Son and Kane to create plenty of chances.

9. Dele Alli (8.5/10)

What a difference he has made in the recent weeks with his comeback from injury! Scored the opener with a perfect header and probed away at the defenders with some elegant touches and crisp passing. He played as a virtual centre-forward alongside Kane and his effort kissed the crossbar in the second half.

10. Heung-Min Son (8.5/10)

A constant threat in the final third with his pace and dribbling. Linked up very effectively with Eriksen and Alli in the final third; could have scored in the first half but had his shot saved by Kepa. Made up for it with a wonderful solo run, beating Luiz, Rudiger and Jorginho to score the third goal.

11. Harry Kane (8/10)

He wasn’t at his very best but still managed to get his name on the scoresheet; missed out on an open goal in the second half.
