Manchester United player ratings vs Juventus
Manchester United came away with an unexpected 2-1 win over Juventus at Turin in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s wonder goal in the 65th-minute put the home side in the lead before United struck twice in the last five minutes to pull off a shock result.
Juan Mata found the net with a delightful curling free-kick before Alex Sandro’s own goal from a free-kick ensured that the Red Devils registered their second win of the group stages.

1. David de Gea (6/10)
Made a couple of good saves from Pjanic and Cuadrado. Another calm and composed performance between the sticks.
2. Ashley Young (6/10)
He had a decent game and did quite well defensively but was very poor with his deliveries into the box.
3. Chris Smalling (7/10)
He had a terrible game against Bournemouth but showed massive improvement to keep things tight at the back; kept Ronaldo at bay in the first half but was a bit slow to react for Ronaldo’s goal.
4. Victor Lindelof (6.5/10)
He had an average game and looked solid for large quarters of the game, barring one or two instances when his positioning wasn’t up to the mark. His lack of agility was exposed when Ronaldo stormed past him and Smalling for the opener.
5. Luke Shaw (6.5/10)
He had a tough battle in his hands against the pacy Cuadrado and did well to keep him at bay for most of the game, barring a couple of instances when he was caught out; a good display overall.
6. Nemanja Matic (5/10)
A below par display against a tough opposition. Was way off the pace in the midfield and did not have the sort of impact that he has in the Premier League.
7. Paul Pogba (5/10)
The Frenchman looked too sloppy in all aspects of the game. Struggled to make an impact and didn’t really get involved in the proceedings.
8. Ander Herrera (7.5/10)
Arguably the pick of United’s midfielders. Looked tidy with his passing, cut out the attacks with crucial tackles and interceptions and established himself as a link between the defence and attack.
9. Anthony Martial (6.5/10)
Fired a shot wide and should have troubled De Sciglio more often; deserves credit for his endeavour and work-rate as he helped Luke Shaw close down Juan Cuadrado.
10. Jesse Lingard (4/10)
Mourinho shouldn’t have given him a start in such a high-pressure game on his return from injury; looked visibly rusty and barely had any impact.
11. Alexis Sanchez (5.5/10)
Put in the hard yards and showed commendable work-rate but didn’t have much of an impact and lacked the end product.

Substitutes
Marcus Rashford (6/10)
Put pressure on the backline with his constant running. Fired a shot just inches wide of the post and should have found the net towards the dying stages of the game.
Juan Mata (7/10)
Wonderful free-kick to bring United back on level terms. Played some good passes and added impetus to the attack.
Marouane Fellaini (6/10)
Bullied the defenders with his physical presence.
