Premier League free agent XI whose contracts run out in 2021

There are very few things in football transfers that are as exciting as free transfers. Imagine signing a star player for absolutely nothing in terms of transfer fee, with just their wages to cover. A player who might not be affordable due to his high valuation, can now be signed for free because his contract runs down soon.

There are quite a few superstars whose contracts expire at the end of the 2021 season and they could sign for any club they wish, for free. Below we take a look at an entire XI of Premier League players who will be free agents at the end of this season.

Premier League Free Agent XI

Sergio Romero (GK)

There are few underrated players over the last few years and Manchester United’s Sergio Romero can count himself as one of them. The Argentine has quietly played second fiddle at the club for the last 5 years and yet never complained.

Outcast under Mourinho, the club are looking to terminate his contract by mutual consent to cut their losses.

Sokratis (CB)

A solid defender whose Arsenal career was bogged down by repeated injuries. With new acquisitions in defence, there doesn’t seem like there’s enough room for the Greek international.

Eric Garcia (CB)

Eric Garcia was reluctant to renew his contract with City as talks with Barcelona did the rounds (source – Mirror). A young, talented player, his availability on a free transfer is a great opportunity for clubs to pursue his signature.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah (RB)

The Manchester United youngster may have been recalled to the first-team picture but he is still behind the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams in the pecking order.

Georginio Wijnaldum (CM)

One of Liverpool’s finest assets, the recent arrival of Thiago has sort of pushed him out of the starting XI. Given the player that he is, he won’t be short of suitors for sure.

John Lundstram (CM)

John Lundstram was an important player for Sheffield United last season and he hasn’t yet signed a new deal with the club, which means he is available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Mesut Ozil (AM)

It’s rather baffling as to how Ozil went from Arsenal’s prime playmaker to a £350,000 weekly liability. The German has been out of the first-team for a while now.

Demarai Gray (LW)

The Leicester youngster has fallen down the pecking order with the emergence of Harvey Barnes.

Sergio Aguero (ST)

The Manchester City record scorer hasn’t begun talks with the club regarding a new contract. He might be 32 but he looks anything but finished in terms of ability.

Juan Mata (RW)

Mata has been one of the most successful yet underrated players of his generation. He has won all there is and has had a stellar Premier League career. Now on the fringes of Manchester United, he is in the last few months of his current deal.
