Predicted Tottenham XI to face Liverpool in the Premier League

Tottenham salvaged a 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Saturday to settle for a Round 3 replay, thanks to an equalizer from Lucas Moura.

Having drawn against Norwich City and slumped to a narrow defeat against Southampton in their last two Premier League outings, the Lilywhites could have their work cut out when they play host to runaway leaders Liverpool on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho’s side currently sit 6th in the standings, six points adrift of the top-four, and the North Londoners are clearly the underdogs heading into the weekend clash against Jurgen Klopp’s side, who beat them 2-1 at Anfield earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, Liverpool continued their fine run with a 1-0 victory over Merseyside rivals Everton in the 3rd round of the FA Cup on Sunday and they will once again be the outright favourites to come away with three points against Spurs on Saturday.

Team News

Jose Mourinho has plenty of injuries to contend with ahead of the high-octane weekend clash against the Reds. Harry Kane (hamstring), Hugo Lloris (elbow), Danny Rose (calf), Tanguy Ndombele (groin) and Ben Davies (ankle) are all ruled out while Moussa Sissoko remains doubtful to play a part as well.

Formation: 3-5-2

Manager: Jose Mourinho

Predicted XI

1. Paulo Gazzaniga (GK)

The Argentine shot-stopper has done a decent job between the sticks and should retain his place in the absence of Lloris.

2. Toby Alderweireld (CB)

The Belgian continues to be one of the key cogs at the back for Spurs and it remains to be see how he copes with Liverpool’s deadly front three on Saturday.

3. Jan Vertonghen (LCB)

The veteran will need to be at the top of his game against Liverpool if Spurs are to come away with a positive result.

4. Davinson Sanchez (RCB)

The Colombian didn’t enter the field of play in the FA Cup game but he is expected to return to the playing eleven at the weekend.

5. Ryan Sessegnon (LWB)

The youngster has enjoyed a consistent run in the playing eleven in recent weeks and Mourinho should hand him another start to allow him to grow in confidence.

6. Serge Aurier (RWB)

The Ivorian has somewhat blown hot and cold this season but his cross to set up Lucas Moura’s headed equalizer against Middlesbrough was a reminder of the kind of quality he has up his sleeve.

7. Harry Winks (CDM)

The academy graduate might not be the most creative player in the team but his composure and passing in the middle of the park could hold the key to Tottenham’s chances of thwarting Liverpool.

8. Christian Eriksen (CM)

The Dane has featured in a deeper role in recent games and that is expected to continue in the absence of Ndombele and Sissoko.

9. Dele Alli (CM)

The England international has enjoyed a wonderful resurgence under Mourinho and Tottenham will need him to fire on all cylinders if they are to come away with something against Liverpool.

10. Lucas Moura (ST)

The Brazilian will be high on confidence after his well-taken headed goal in the FA Cup tie against Middlesbrough.
