Predicted Leicester City XI to face Liverpool: Who should start for the Foxes?

Leicester City have made a bright start to their Premier League campaign this season, with two wins in a row. After a 2-1 loss to Manchester United on the opening day, where the Foxes had the lion’s share of the possession, they brought their campaign back on track with victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton.

Claude Puel’s men have also made a good start to their League Cup campaign, thrashing Fleetwood 4-0 in the midweek game.

The Foxes will face Liverpool at home in the Premier League on Saturday and Puel is expected to make quite a few changes to the team that played in the League Cup.

Team News

New signing Caglar Soyuncu played for Leicester City’s U23 team a couple of days back but is doubtful to feature in the matchday squad.

Matty James continues to recover from his Achilles injury while Jamie Vardy will miss the game due to the three-match ban he faced after picking up a red card against Wolves.

Predicted Leicester City XI to face Liverpool

Manager: Claude Puel

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Kasper Schmeichel (GK)

The Danish keeper was rested for the League Cup game against Fleetwood, meaning he should reclaim his spot ahead of Danny Ward. Schmeichel played an important part in the Foxes’ victory over Southampton, making a couple of good saves to deny Danny Ings.

Daniel Amartey (RB)

Puel has used Amartey as a makeshift right-back from the start of this season. Although he still has a lot of scope for improvement, the Ghanaian is expected to retain his position.

Harry Maguire (CB)

The English international’s superb long-range effort secured three valuable points for the Foxes in their previous game. Although he had a couple of slip-ups against Southampton and was rested for the game against Fleetwood, Maguire must feature at the heart of Leicester’s defence against Liverpool.

Jonny Evans (CB)

The new signing started the game against Wolves but was benched for the fixture against Southampton. Evans had a good game in the League Cup and Puel should field him ahead of the ageing Wes Morgan.

Ben Chilwell (LB)

The young left-back has been given the nod over Christian Fuchs in the Premier League games so far. Although Fuchs featured in the League Cup tie, Chilwell should return to the team after a good showing against Southampton.

Nampalys Mendy (RCM)

The Frenchman was brilliant with his pressing at the centre of the park, making some crucial tackles and interceptions against Southampton. He must feature at the heart of the midfield ahead of Vicente Iborra.

Wilfred Ndidi (LCM)

The Nigerian was rested in the League Cup tie and did not have the best of games against Southampton. However, Puel should field Ndidi ahead of Adrien Silva due to his superior work rate.

Ricardo Pereira (RAM)

The Portuguese had an average game against Southampton, playing a narrow role instead of a wide attacking role. He was rested for the League Cup tie but he should replace Rachid Ghezzal on the right.

James Maddison (CAM)

James Maddison

The England U21 international has been one of a fruitful find for Leicester this season. He got on the scoresheet against Wolves and Puel must hand him another start ahead of Shinji Okazaki.

Demarai Gray (LAM)

The youngster has done well for the Foxes this season. Although Puel started with Marc Albrighton on the left against Fleetwood, the Englishman should return to starting XI.

Kelechi Iheanacho (ST)

The Nigerian has blown hot and cold in patches so far but Puel has little choice with Jamie Vardy out with a suspension.
