Chelsea Opinion: Boubacar Kamara could prove to be an excellent signing for the Blues
According to The Sun, Chelsea are looking to sign highly-rated 19-year-old centre-back Boubacar Kamara from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille if their transfer ban is lifted.
Chelsea are currently under a two-window transfer ban for the illegal signing of minors but the Blues are planning to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after the verdict from FIFA’s Appeal Committee went against them.
If the Blues do manage to have their ban lifted or delayed, they have lined up players like Philippe Coutinho, Marco Asensio, Wilfred Zaha and Edinson Cavani, with Eden Hazard looking set to join Real Madrid in the summer. (h/t Sun)
The Sun understands that Chelsea have scouted Kamara over the past season and they are impressed with the youngster’s growth and development. The 19-year-old is held in high regard by the hierarchy at Marseille and has been tipped by many to be a future star in European football, meaning that Chelsea would probably need to fork out a sizeable fee to get him on board this summer.
Boubacar Kamara rose through he youth ranks at Marseille before making his senior professional debut in December 2016 and has gradually carved out a reputation for himself as one of the brightest young prospects in Ligue 1. The 19-year-old managed has managed to nail down a regular starting role at his current club and made 31 appearances in Ligue 1 this past season.
A fast and agile centre-back with super-quick reactions and appreciable game-reading abilities, Kamara has shown a level of maturity that belies his tender years, both in terms of decision-making and composure. He is strong enough for a defender of his age and combines his physicality and aerial ability with his pace and anticipation to keep the opposition at bay.
Strong on the tackle and more than capable of positioning himself perfectly to cut out attacks with timely interceptions, the 19-year-old is blessed with a wonderful passing technique, which is comparable to any central midfielder. He is very calm and composed with the ball at his feet- paying out from the back effortlessly and switching the play with wonderful long balls.
Kamara, who has 34 caps for France at all youth levels, boasts of a pass success percentage of 86.3, including 3 successful long balls, 2.2 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 2.9 clearances and 2.1 aerial duels per game, figures which speak volumes of his rapid development as a centre-back.
To put things into perspective, Chelsea could possibly have a gem in their hands if they manage to get their hands on the promising young centre-back this summer. The 19-year-old has made a wonderful start to his career and he seemingly has all the raw attributes to evolve into a fine modern-day defender in the years to come.
Gary Cahill is set to depart on a free transfer after struggling for playtime under Maurizio Sarri and although the Blues have the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and David Luiz as viable options at the back, it won’t be a bad idea for them to invest in Boubacar Kamara and groom him for the future.
David Luiz signed a new two-year deal a few days back but he is already 32 and Chelsea need to get someone ready to take over the reins from him in a couple of year’s time. Kurt Zouma is obviously a good choice but given that he hasn’t featured under Sarri, the Blues should probably look at other options in the transfer window.
