Wolverhampton Wanderers will be looking to build on their promotion to the Premier League by making a strong start to the season. The Wolves claimed the Championship title in style, scoring 99 points and finishing 9 points higher than Cardiff City.
Manager Nuno Espirito Santo will be looking to add some fresh faces to the squad in order to ensure they have a fruitful start to their life in the English top-flight.
The Wolves are reportedly interested in signing Swedish right back Felix Beijmo from Djurgardens IF. Beijmo, 20, can be used as a back-up to Matt Doherty, who currently occupies the right-back spot in the team.
The Wanderers, along with Cardiff City, conceded merely 39 goals last season and they will be looking to build on that impressive defensive record. Djurgardens snapped Beijmo up from second-tier champions Brommapojkarna and the player is now considered to be one of the brightest emerging talents in his position in Sweden.
The right-back scored 1 goal and provided 2 assists in 11 appearances in the Allsvenskan. Regularly marauding down the flank, the 20-year-old is a constant threat and can produce some delicious crosses. Beijmo is defensively sound as well and is unafraid to have the occasional go at opposition attackers. This undying perseverance could prove to be useful against the league’s big boys.
Santo has an eventful preseason planned for the squad and he will surely require backup in all the positions. He must present his talented squad with a rigorous and challenging period before taking on the Premier League. To do just that, Wolves have a number of tough fixtures against competitive opponents over the course of the next couple of months.
The Wolves players who aren’t at the World Cup, are due at the club’s Compton training ground at the end of this month for testing and gym work.
When compared to the Championship, the level of the Premier League is vast and the Wolves will need all hands on deck if they are to remain rigid at the back. If the move does go through, the player will become one of the Swedish Allsvenskan league’s most expensive exports.
Borussia Monchengladbach are also said to be scouting the youngster and it will be interesting to watch this saga unfold.
