Manchester United vs Barcelona Ratings: United Ratings + Reaction

Manchester United fell to a rather gutting 1-0 defeat to La Liga giants Barcelona in their Champions League quarterfinal 1st leg tie. The home side started the game with great intensity and intent but it didn’t take Catalan giants very long at all to actually find the only goal of the game.

It came in the 12th minute when a lobbed ball into the box was nodded down by Luis Suarez only to then deflected into the net by a helpless Luke Shaw. Despite heir best efforts, they were unable to break down the Barcelona in what was a very average display from a lot of the United players.

Here are the Manchester United Player Ratings:

David de Gea 7

Did extremely well to keep out solid efforts from both Phillips Coutinho and Jordi Alba across both halves.

Ashley Young 3

The English veteran put in an an absolutely shocking display against the La Liga side and must be dropped.

Victor Lindelof 7

Didn’t make any glaring mistakes and did well to block out the Barcelona avenues on more than one occasion.

Chris Smalling 6

The Englishman showed some decent touch today but commuted far too many violent and aggressive fouls.

Luke Shaw 7

The English speedster was started as part of a back 3 but it was after he moved back to wing-back that he impressed.

Fred 7

The Brazilian had a good game in the middle of the park and was fairly tidy on the ball despite a few small errors.

Scott McTominay 7

Looked to be completely unfazed by the magnitude of the occasion and held his position well for the whole game.

Paul Pogba 3

The Frenchman seemed to completely disappear yet again in a big game and this is now becoming habitual.

Marcus Rashford 6

Worked hard in the second half but was never given a whiff of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s goal by the Barcelona defenders.

Romelu Lukaku 4

The Belgian forward seemed to be clueless about his positioning at time and lacked any meaningful movement.

Substitutes

Anthony Martial 6

Had little to no impact on the game and failed to control a pass that could’ve played him in on goal.

Jesse Lingard 5

Brought on to try and change the pace of the game, Lingard has no impact whatsoever either.

Andreas Pereira 6

His typical industrious self but wasn’t given nearly enough time to really showcase his potential.
