How to Solve Baldur’s Gate 3 Balthazar’s Room Puzzle
Balthazar’s room is an eerie sight to behold, adorned with gruesome decor including blood-smeared walls and scattered bones. The room is reminiscent of an abode befitting an evil necromancer. Amidst the eerie ambiance, a multitude of books and ominous warnings await the intrepid explorer, cautioning them to keep their hands to themselves. However, for those brave enough to ignore these ominous messages and embark on a quest for hidden knowledge, a puzzle beckons, guarding the path to the secret library.
Step 1 – Interact with the Body
The first step in solving this enigmatic puzzle is to interact with the lifeless body on the ground within the room.
Step 2 – Obtain the Heart
Once you’ve interacted with the body, seize the heart from it. This heart will play a crucial role in unraveling the mystery of the room.
Step 3 – The Small Device
Step 4 – Insert the Heart
Insert the heart you obtained from the lifeless body into the device. As you do this, you will trigger the mechanism that unlocks the entrance to the secret library. With good build, you can solve puzzles and survive the Underdark or other quests.
The Secrets Within
Upon successfully solving the puzzle and gaining access to the secret library, you’ll find yourself surrounded by a treasure trove of knowledge. The library is dedicated to hidden research on the insidious Illithid Parasites, and within its confines, you’ll discover a locked chest containing an elixir and a distinctive hat. Additionally, a table within the room features a captivating ritual circle that opens up intriguing possibilities. If you want to increase your level XP then use the Increased Level XP mod.
The Ritual Circle Dialogue
Interacting with the ritual circle within Baldur’s Gate 3 Balthazar’s room presents you with an intriguing dialogue choice, particularly if you have the enigmatic Gale in your party. There are a few prerequisites to consider:
- Gale in Your Party: You must have Gale as a companion to unlock this dialogue option.
- Wizard or Wizard in Your Party: To fully engage with this mystical circle, you need to either be a Wizard yourself or have a Wizard in your party.
Once these conditions are met, you can move on with the conversation, and Gale will tell you what he thinks very strongly about. He is very worried about how weird the ritual circle is, since it uses pixies, which are animals that his master, Mystra, loves. Gale will insist that you either break the loop or use it to your benefit.
Using the Ritualistic Circle
Should you choose to use the ritual circle, you will require two essential items:
- A Dead Pixie: You can find a deceased pixie on the same table in the room. Simply loot it.
- A Broken Moon Lantern: This item is also conveniently located on the same table. Loot it as well.
With these items in your possession, interact with the circle and follow the steps to combine them. This process culminates in the creation of a Dark Moon Lantern, distinct from the typical moon lantern. When used, it summons a strong dark shadow to aid you in combat, offering both offensive and distracting capabilities, making it a potent asset against your enemies.
Erasing the Ritualistic Circle
Alternatively, if you opt to erase the ritual circle, a significant event will transpire. You will initially experience a powerful sensation, and the outcome will vary depending on whether you or Gale undertakes this task. It is strongly recommended to let Gale handle this action, as it will earn him favor with Mystra, providing a permanent advantage in all constitution saving throws as the story unfolds.
To reach Balthazar’s Room, head to the southeast section of the Moonrise Towers in Act 2. Depending on your story choices, you can either sneak in or enter directly. Solve the puzzle inside to gain access to the secret library.
You have two choices regarding the ritual circle in Balthazar’s Room: you can use it to create a Dark Moon Lantern for combat advantages, or you can erase it to earn favor with Mystra and gain permanent advantages in constitution saving throws. Your choice will impact the game’s progression.
