One of such bosses is the one we’ll be talking about today – Mohg, Lord of Blood. The Lord of Blood can be found at the Mohgwyn Palace deep into the Sifora River. However, make sure you grab a crystal tear from Altus Plateau before you go off to challenge this madlad.

When should you fight Mohg Lord of Blood?

Here’s a tidbit, you can actually finish the entire game of Elden Ring before beating Mohg Lord of Blood. He is a completely optional boss who you can fight for a great rune that will help you in only PvP fights. SO, if you’re more of a PvE person, we recommend you sit this one out unless you just want a challenge for which, you are at the right place.

Introduction to Mohg Lord of Blood (Elden Ring)

We say you’re at the right place because Mohg’s fight is different than all other boss fights in the game. It has a somewhat unusual clever catch to it. Try saving this fight for until you have defeated Godfrey proper or at least are prepared enough to.

In terms of levels, we would recommend having your level up to about 140-145 so that you have plenty of health to spare while trying to fight this monstrosity.

And as far as weaponry goes, don’t even think about going for it unless you have a fully upgraded weapon, hence, a +22/+25.

How to prepare for the fight with Mohg?

The first and foremost, also the most obvious, thing to do is to summon a Spirit Ash to help you in the fight and to make the fight a bit more manageable.

Just like Morgott, his brother Mohg is also susceptible to poison damage so keeping a Spirit Jellyfish handy won’t hurt. In case you can’t get your hands on one, a heavy or rather tank Spirit Ash should work just as good.

Also, don’t forget to mix your Flask of Wondrous Physik with the Purifying Crystal Tear which can be obtained by defeating Violet Finger Eleanora at the Second Church of Marika in Altus Plateau, which is vital for surviving Mohg’s blood curse during the battle.

The ace in your deck, however, would be the Mohg’s shackle which can be found in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds located under the Royal Capital of Leyndell.

The shackle works in a similar way to the Margit’s shackle which you may have used while fighting his brother. Once used, the shackle will trap Mohg in place and you will be able to deal damage uninterrupted to him making the first phase of the battle a piece of cake.

How to defeat Mohg Lord of Blood in Elden Ring

Now comes the tricky part – How do you truly defeat Mohg in a fight. In order to do that, we first need to study his attacks and how you can make full use of every opportunity.

Mohg usually delays his attacks like most other bosses so a slowing effect such as frost will not be needed to delay him. Though easy to dodge or block, his trident attacks can be fatal if they hit you so keep an eye out for them.

The real threat, however, will be his Blood Claw attacks which will deal two types of damage – one of which is delayed and can be combined with a trident charge.

Also, keep a mental note of the distance that you are keeping with the boss, try to stay as close as possible in both phases as once you reach a distance, Mohg will proceed to spray blood around the arena which can get dangerous as the flames get added in the second phase of the fight.

Mohg can also be staggered in both phases which will allow you to land a critical attack so try and make full use of such opportunities.

And that, friends, is how you can defeat one of the most difficult bosses in Elden Ring. Though the reward is very specific and most beneficial for PvP players and not PvE, but hey, who doesn’t like a challenge am I right?
