Want to know how to beat Lady Butterfly in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice? Our guide will give you the best tips and tricks.

Lady Butterfly is arguably the first major boss in Sekiro, found in the game’s Hirata Estate memories area. She can be found in Hirata Estate moments, just after a grunt, in the hidden stairs in front of the samurai suit. Kill the grunt upon finding her, then move the platform in front of the samurai suit so you’re facing her with the hidden stairs.

Getting Shurikens prepared for this fight is a good idea as Lady Butterfly is a boss who uses ranged weapons against the player. Using some to return the favor will prepare the player for the final battle. So, how to beat Lady Butterfly? Well as we said, you will have to prepare and need our tips and tricks that will help you in this  Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice boss fight.

How to beat Lady Butterfly: Phase one

This battle with Lady Butterfly starts off fairly easy. The only thing you have to watch out for is the red kanji. If Lady Butterfly is on the ground and you see it, you should jump back quite a distance before she does a big sweeping attack.

Another attack from above is the red kanji attack. Lady Butterfly will occasionally rise into the air, either attacking you with one of her standard attacks or attacking you with a red kanji attack. Avoiding these attacks is easy since you simply gotta keep moving right, dodging when the boss is airborne, and you’ll almost always miss it.

When facing Lady Butterfly, you should stay as close to her as possible, no matter how intimidating she is. Back away, and you will be targeted by ranged attacks. To defeat her, just swing your sword at her with two quick swings, and deflect her attacks.

As soon as you enter the arena you will find Lady Butterfly at the opposite end. Get over there as quickly as possible, and start hitting her when she lands on the ground. We suggest bringing the Firecracker to use against Lady Butterfly. Lady Butterfly will not be able to rise into the air and attack from above, and she cannot bring illusionary allies to the fight, which can make it extremely difficult for her. In the case of Lady Butterfly summoning allies, you have three options.

  • One is simply to run and jump around the arena until they disappear (usually they last about 15 seconds).
  • Second, you can fight them all, but they’re really weak.
  • Third, you can use a Snap Seed, which instantly dispels all illusions within 6-7 meters of you.

As a result of their disappearance, the illusions form orbs of light that immediately shoot toward you no matter where you stand in the arena. If you want to avoid them, be aware that they will form orbs of light when they vanish. Otherwise, keep Lady Butterfly from being able to strike with a charged-up red kanji attack, and avoid getting sidetracked by her illusionary fighters.

Things to keep in mind

Shuriken Prosthetic is your main weapon. When she jumps up in the air to attack, it is recommended to launch a Shuriken at her to knock her to the ground. Most of the time her guard will be down so she can be properly damaged.

Damage to Lady Butterfly’s Posture’s health is important here as well, as she recovers extremely fast at full health. Defeating her with actual damage will cause her Posture to recover much slower, so when you’re not flinging Shurikens at her in the air, you’ll have a better chance of breaking it with well-timed deflections and jump counters.
