Why Everton have done the right thing by loaning out Henry Onyekuru
Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim has confirmed a loan deal for Everton and Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru. The 21-year-old arrived at Goodison Park last season but was loaned out to Anderlecht in search of regular game time and to gain a British work permit.
With Everton undergoing a summer revamp under new manager Marco Silva, it was sensible on their part to loan out a young talent who is destined for greater things in the future. The Portuguese manager must build a squad that can gel and perform well next season onwards and Onyekuru requires time and patience to reach his true potential.
Onyekuru will get some much-needed exposure
Since he has already been to Belgium and taken part in some of Anderlecht’s games, Onyekuru has received a fair taste of European football. Moving to Turkey will help the Nigerian understand the physical side of the game, which will massively help him when he returns to play in the Premier League.
For that reason, Everton’s decision seems extremely logical. Onyekuru scored nine goals in 19 appearances for the Belgian club and played in the Champions League as well, which should have helped him understand how things work at the top-level.
Galatasaray are currently the Turkish champions and they will play in the continental competition as well. This will aid the 21-year-old in understanding the game further and gaining some valuable experience.
From Everton’s point of view, it is the right decision since Onyekuru is still a raw talent and requires time to become the complete package. The Toffees, meanwhile, have to focus on working wonders next season. Hence, Silva must find players who can perform immediately, without thinking of the future.

With this deal, it looks like a win-win situation for all parties involved. Onyekuru should grasp this opportunity and clock regular minutes in Turkey rather than warming the bench in England. The 21-year-old is also expected to receive international exposure, which will help him upon his return to the English top-flight.
Hence, the Merseysiders have done a brilliant job by letting one of their future stars leave to utilize him later in the future.
