Signing Juan Quintero in January can take Wolves to the next level

According to an earlier report by the Sun, Wolves were interested in signing FC Porto’s Colombian midfielder Juan Quintero in the summer transfer window. However, the deal fell through and Wolves failed to add further reinforcements to their squad.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have already proven their mettle in the Premier League and Wolves currently sit 9th in the standings with 12 points from seven games. They have lost only one game so far and showed immense determination to hold teams like Manchester United, Manchester City and Everton to draws. To sum it up, they haven’t been affected by the reputation of the opposition and have played some fearless football in the early stages of the season.

Wolves continued their amazing run in the Premier League and stretched their winning streak to three games in a row with a 2-0 victory over Southampton at the Molineux on Saturday.

As seen from their impressive displays this season, Wolves have all the makings of a solid mid-table side but their level of consistency is truly commendable.

All the summer recruits have come good for Nuno Espirito Santo so far. Veteran Rui Patricio has put in multiple good shifts between the sticks while Joao Moutinho has emerged as a key man in the midfield. Willy Boly has been one of the mainstays of the backline and Diogo Jota has been a livewire in the attacking third. On-loan sensation Raul Jimenez has also contributed with a couple of goals.

And Wolves definitely have the financial backing to bring in more high-profile players and Colombian midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero could an ideal option to bolster their attack.

Juan Quintero began his professional career with Colombian outfit Envigado in 2010. He caught the eye of Portuguese giants Porto with some impressive performances in the Serie A for Pescara. Since moving to Porto in 2013, Quintero spent time on loan at Rennes, Independiente Medellin and currently plies his trade on loan for Argentine outfit River Plate.

Despite enjoying success on the international front for Colombia, he hasn’t managed to establish himself as a regular for Porto.

However, a move to Wolves could do a world of good for the Colombian magician and Santo should be looking to revive his interest in the player.

Just like most players who hail from South America, Quintero is blessed with a wonderful technique. He is well-known for combining his technical abilities with his low centre of gravity to bamboozle the opposition with nimble footwork. Mesmerizing dribbling skills coupled with instant acceleration make him a difficult candidate for the defenders to handle.

As for Quintero, it is not only about his flair, athleticism and dribbling skills. The 25-year-old boasts of remarkable vision and awareness and sometimes completes passes with the back of his heel without even looking at his teammates. When his heroics do come off, the viewers are often left wondering as to whether he has eyes at the back of his head. In other words, he is adept at picking out the runs of his teammates with picture-perfect through balls.

These attributes make him a perfect No.10 for any team in the world. At times, he has been deployed in a deeper role where he has dictated proceedings with his good range of passing. However, he is most likely to excel when deployed as a central attacking midfielder.

Furthermore, he is extremely good from direct free-kicks and uses his magical left foot to curl the ball into the net.

To put things into perspective, Quintero could be perfect for Wolves. He would be ideal to link the play with Diogo Jota, Helder Costa, Matt Doherty and Raul Jimenez. Also, his presence in the midfield might allow the likes of Jota and Jimenez to assume greater attacking roles.

Combining Quintero, Moutinho and Ruben Neves could be work magic for Wolves in the coming days. That said, Wolves should revive their interest in the Colombian and sign him in January.
