Why Manchester United should sign Hirving Lozano in January
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have PSV Eindhoven winger Hirving Lozano, 23, on their radar as a potential option to bolster their attacking options in January. However, United will face stiff competition from a host of other elite European clubs including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund (h/t Manchester Evening News).
Lozano was an integral part of the Mexican team which took part in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. His popularity has risen ever since he scored his nation’s winning goal against Germany in the group stages. It was largely due to the 23-year-old’s impressive displays that Mexico were able to overcome the challenges of Germany and South Korea to reach the last-16 stage. They where were eventually knocked out by Brazil.

Lozano joined Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven from Pachuca in the summer of 2017 and made an immediate impact in the Eredivisie. He was a standout performer for the club with 17 goals and 8 assists last season, as PSV won the league title.
The youngster has carried his good run of form into the ongoing season as well, scoring two goals in four appearances.
United’s misery
United’s start to the season hasn’t been great by any means. With a 50% win record in the first four games, Jose Mourinho’s men sit tenth in the league table.
While much of their lacklustre performances have been down to sloppy defending this season, the attackers haven’t hit the ground running either. Mourinho could be partly held responsible for not exercising the tactical flexibility to get the best out of his players.
But a fair share of blame should go to the forwards too, who have been guilty of squandering numerous goalscoring chances. Furthermore, they look disjointed at the top, sometimes isolated from the rest of the team.
For that reason, United need Lozano to be the X-factor in their front-line. The Red Devils need someone who has the ability to wreak havoc in the opposition’s half, and there are few better than Lozano in that aspect.

A classical inverted winger by trade, Lozano often plays on the left side of either a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 formation. This allows him to cut inside and fire accurate piledrivers with his stronger right foot. A player defined by technique, agility, sharpness and dribbling skills, the 23-year-old has it all to become the perfect winger under Mourinho. Furthermore, he has the pace to exploit spaces on the counter.

The Mexican has an extremely cool head on his shoulders and has shown great maturity with his decision-making at crucial moments. Considering the fact that Lozano is a valuable team player, Manchester United should lure him as soon as possible before potential suitors take him away.
