Ahead of his much anticipated UFC 275 light heavyweight title defense against Jiri Prochazka, we take a look at Glover Teixeira’s wife, his family and more
One of the most anticipated PPV events of the 2022 calendar is just a few days away. The main event features a light heavyweight clash between current champion Glover Teixeira and Jiri Prochazka. In the main event, the old guard of the sport Glover Texeira faces the young and hungry warrior Jiri Prochazka in a fight that has all the makings for an instant classic.
A 5th-degree black belt in Kajukenbo under John Hackleman, and 2nd-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Luigi Mondelli, Glover became the oldest guy to win the UFC championship gold when he defeated Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267. Teixeira is a former member of the Brazilian National Wrestling Team and has competed in the WEC, Impact FC, PFC, and Shooto. He is the second oldest UFC champion in history behind Randy Couture and the oldest first time champion in UFC history.
Teixeira’s journey in martial arts is as impressive as his journey to becoming the champion. He is originally from the rural community of Sobrália, Minas Gerais, Brazil and is of Portuguese descent. Growing up, there was no electricity in many of the homes in his community, and there was only one gas station.
He moved to Danbury, Connecticut in 1999 to help support his family and landed a job in landscaping. It was there that he met his wife, Ingrid. After watching boxers such as Mike Tyson and the early mixed martial arts fighters such as Royce Gracie and Chuck Liddell compete, Teixeira decided that he wanted to follow the same path.
Surprisingly, the coveted jiu-jitsu practitioner today had never heard of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but was able to find and watch videos of UFC 1 and UFC 2, which featured UFC Hall of Famer and jiu-jitsu pioneer Royce Gracie. After working 10 to 12-hour days landscaping, Teixeira did boxing training at Hat City Boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu at American Top Team Connecticut. John Hackleman, who had trained a fighter who fought Teixeira and was impressed by the young Brazilian, invited Teixeira to his gym in California, The Pit, where Teixeira began training with Chuck Liddell.
A lot of this credit goes to his wife Ingrid, who has been a rock-solid and unshakable support for Glover over the years.

Glover Texeira met his wife Ingrid Peterson when he moved to Connecticut in 1999, to support his family. Glover met her at a gym when he began training. They immediately kindled a relationship, and like the wise say’ If you know you know’. 2 years after dating, the pair married in 2001.
The relationship had its own turmoil that would follow, but they stood strong by each other. Teixeira had moved to the US illegally, with the UFC buying WEC – the promotion Texeira was then a part of, the visa rules and regulations were made stricter(after the 9/11 attack).
Teixeira was forced to get back to Brazil and get the visa issues sorted. Four years of ordeal followed. Peterson and Teixeira, despite being married, hardly met, and the story had all the makings of a cinema. Once Texeira began making big moves in the MMA scene, the issue slowly came to a close. He was granted a green card in 2011. Peterson had to go through all the trials and tribulations.
Peterson currently manages her husband’s fighting business. Besides this, not much is known about Ingrid Peterson’s early life, except the fact that she has a sister named Anna Peterson.
