What is Horimiya?
Horimiya is an engaging romantic comedy that proves not all people are what they appear. Sometimes a quiet awkward guy could actually have an incredible heart of gold while popular jocks may struggle with self-image issues. Horimiya’s central message is that everyone deserves an opportunity to present their true best selves before hasty judgment can take place.
Horimiya’s first season was an immense hit, garnering over two million viewers on Crunchyroll alone. Fans adored Miyamura and Hori’s interactions as the story culminated with them graduating high school together and vowing to be together forever.
There’s been no word yet as to whether or when Horimiya season 2 will arrive. CloverWorks currently has much on their plate and may not have time or funds available to produce one if one does go forward, however fans should remain optimistic that this sequel could happen!
Horimiya: Season One successfully adapted all but two chapters from its source manga, and wrapped up any loose ends in its last episode. However, with 139 chapters available to draw from, some stories had to be cut from Horimiya due to limited production costs or studio attempts at cutting scenes that viewers didn’t find compelling enough.

After Horimiya ended in 2021, fans were left wanting more. Now thankfully a follow-up series has been announced to air in July 2023!
The follow-up will adapt stories from Daisuke Hagiwara’s original manga Horimiya that weren’t included in its first anime adaptation series. Critics and viewers praised its charming characters and realistic depiction of high school life; however, due to time restrictions a 13 episode season did not capture all moments from Horimiya that are found within its pages.
The second season will expand on these events, providing more insight into Hori and Miyamura’s daily lives as well as exploring previously unseen character beats. Entitled “Horimiya: Pieces,” it will air on TOKYO MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV and BS11.
Haruka Tomatsu will reprise her role of Kyoko Hori from season 1, while Kouki Uchiyama returns as Izumi Miyamura.
Horimiya: The End
Horimiya concluded its first season on a strong note with both Hori and Miyamura confessing their feelings for each other and tying up any loose ends, yet that does not guarantee we’ll see an encore season anytime soon.
CloverWorks is currently focused on several projects and cannot dedicate too much of its attention to adapting a well-known manga, especially when finding actors/actresses for both protagonists of this manga adaptation.
While being a lighthearted romantic comedy, the manga also contains several darker moments. It follows two high school students with very different personalities – Hori maintains her ideal social image at school while Miyamura keeps to himself behind layers of tattoos and piercings – who eventually meet unexpectedly and cross paths at some point along their respective journeys.
Hero created and illustrated Horimiya-san to Miyamura-kun Omake manga was first published online from 2007 until 2012. Daisuke Hagiwara later adapted this into 13 episodes for anime television broadcast on Crunchyroll between 2010 and 2012. Additionally, OVAs featuring additional moments from Hero were produced in addition to these regular series; these can only be viewed via Crunchyroll.
Horimiya: The Beginning
Horimiya, created by HERO and Daisuke Hagiwara, first premiered its anime adaptation from January to April 2021, covering all 13 chapters from the manga. Although fans found this first season immensely satisfying, their thirst for more Hori-san and Miyamura-kun drama was finally satisfied with an announcement for a second season!
