GAM Levi Appeals for Riot’s Support as VCS Faces “Tough Times”

published

GAM Levi seeks Riot’s backing amid challenges in VCS. The appeal reflects the team’s resilience during turbulent times.

Due to their participation in both the 2022 League of Legends World Championship and the just-ended 2024 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), GAM Esports has become a reliable foreign voice for the Vietnamese Championship Series (VCS). However, problems in the region have regularly hampered the team’s progress. This led their star jungler, Đỗ “Levi” Duy Khánh, to ask Riot Games to help the VCS grow.

GAM Levi Reflects on MSI Challenges and Regional Struggles

Before GAM’s last game at MSI 2024, Levi talked about the problems the team had during the event. He agreed that playing in front of a live crowd for the first time after a season without any fans was different, which is similar to what his teammate Lai “Hoàng” Gia Han said. Levi stressed how bad this was for the team’s mindset, especially since they didn’t have a live audience during the VCS season.

GAM Levi talked about how disappointed he was that there wasn’t a strong culture of watching sports in the VCS area. He said, “I would love to see [VCS] grow bigger and better,” and he hoped that Riot would help this growth happen faster.

Acknowledging VCS Difficulties and Seeking Support

GAM Levi talked openly about the “tough times” the VCS area is going through right now, including the effects of the ongoing 2024 match-fixing investigations that have cast a shadow over the league and had a direct effect on GAM Esports. Even with these problems, Levi said he was deeply grateful for the support the team has gotten from around the world during this tough time.

GAM’s Regional Success Translates to International Strides

In the past, GAM Esports hasn’t always been able to take their regional dominance to the international stage, but their victory at MSI 2024 was a big turning point. In some games, like against LOUD from Brazil, they made their opponents fight hard to win, and they even pulled off a shocking upset. Even though they didn’t make it to the Bracket Stage after their final match against Fnatic, the VCS players gained the respect of fans and other players with how well they played.

A Call for a Brighter Future for the VCS

The fact that GAM Levi is asking Riot for help is a sharp reminder of the problems that are currently stopping the VCS region’s growth. The current problems with match-fixing, the lack of a strong culture for spectators, and the lack of LAN events have all made things hard for both players and organizations.

The VCS might be able to get past these problems and become a thriving esports area if Riot Games and the global League of Legends community keep supporting it. These encouraging words from GAM Levi serve as a lighthouse, calling on the industry to see the VCS’s talent and promise and give it the tools it needs to grow.
