Alexander Shevchenko will take on Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the second round of the French Open

Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti is the No.17 seed in the tournament and recorded a comprehensive straight sets win in the first round. He didn’t look in trouble whatsoever as he cruised to a 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 victory against Sweden’s Mikael Ymer. The Italian has been in impressive touch throughout the clay-court season and he has carried the good form to Paris. The 21-year-old prefers playing on clay and he would certainly fancy his chances of going deep into the tournament.

Musetti’s best performance at the Italian Open till date came in 2021 when he reached the fourth round of the competition. There is no doubt that the Italian is a much improved player now and there will be high expectations from him. However, it is important that the World No.18 doesn’t get carried away and just focuses on being consistent throughout his campaign in Paris.

Alexander Shevchenko’s form coming into the match

Alexander Shevchenko is an emerging youngster on the ATP tour and he is all set to lock horns with one of the top names in the men’s circuit. Shevchenko is coming into this match following a thrilling win in the first round against Germany’s Oscar Otte. The match lasted close to three hours as Shevchenko displayed nerves of steel to carve out a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 victory. The job only gets tougher from here on though and it remains to be seen if the Russian has what it takes to challenge his higher-ranked opponent.

Head to head and Predictions

Musetti and Shevchenko have never played each other before on the ATP tour. This is the first professional head to head clash between the two players. On paper, Musetti is the clear favourite both in terms of experience and rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the promising Russian and he is expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting a close match but Lorenzo Musetti should prevail in four sets.
