Solich’s first year as head coach at Nebraska resulted in an undefeated regular season and a Big 12 championship for the Cornhuskers, but they were unable to defend their title against Tennessee in the Orange Bowl. With an overall record of 58-19 during his time as Nebraska’s head coach, Solich had a fruitful and successful career. He guided the Nebraska Cornhuskers to three conference titles and one participation in the national championship game, which took place in 2001 in the Rose Bowl when they were defeated by the Miami Hurricanes.
