Sebastian Vettel wants to do more off-road racing in the future
Sebastian Vettel starred alongside Mick Schumacher in the 2022 edition of RoC, an annual race held between drivers of various forms of motorsport. The two made it to the finals of the ‘Champion of Champions’ segment despite not having any previous on-track experience but lost out to nine-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb.
When asked if he’d be open to racing off-roads in the future, Sebastian Vettel said the following after the race:
“Obviously, you saw that I’m still missing a little bit. But I think I enjoy it a lot. I always enjoyed watching what they are doing. It is a different discipline so you’re still having fun with a car but it’s just there are a lot of differences. The sport progresses and there’s more to it than just driving which is also a challenge. So, for sure it’s not easy to just jump into it and be very good at it. You need the time and experience but if somebody is willing to give me a shot and a chance and has a lot of time, I’m happy to look at it.”
He added, “I think it’s something that is, as a driver, very satisfying, to play with the car and to have more margin. Normally, when the car steps out, you correct it immediately and you’ve lost a bit of time. Here, I think there’s much more grey. You are sideways, maybe the timing’s a little bit off, but you can correct it.” when asked about the difference between on- and off-road racing
Mick Schumacher rookie season
Mick Schumacher is a Swiss-born German racing driver. He races for Haas in Formula One under the German flag. He is a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and a reserve driver for Scuderia Ferrari. He began his career in karting in 2008, progressing to the German ADAC Formula 4 by 2015
Despite his legendary surname generating great excitement and interest for his Formula 1 debut in 2021, Mick Schumacher was able to learn the ropes in fairly under-the-radar fashion during his rookie season.
Schumacher credits chess as being an integral part of his mental preparation before an F1 race. He stated: “I feel like these games kind of bring focus back, as you always have to be switched on with your mind. I always want to be mentally ready for every challenge that comes”.
Schumacher ended his debut season 19th in the drivers’ championship, ahead of teammate Mazepin but with no points scored.
