Leicester City Opinion: Foxes must gove Chilwell a long-term contract

According to a recent report by The Sun, Leicester City’s star left-back Ben Chilwell is attracting a lot of interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe with both Manchester City and Spanish giants Atletico Madrid said to be extremely keen. It has been suggested that the Madrid club have submitted a humongous bid worth £71m and judging by the business City have done in the past, that price certainly isn’t beyond them.

The youngster signed a new deal to stay at the King Power Stadium only in October and despite still having the most of five years left on his contract, he could still be tempted by what’s on offer. The Spanish club are said to be looking at the possibility of the young Englishman replacing Felipe Luis and Lucas Hernandez who are both set to leave come summertime.

It is also claimed that Manchester City’s interest in the youngster dates back to January when they tried to lure him to the Etihad in order to try and replace the injury-prone Benjamin Mendy. Considering he’s only 22, making a move for the youngster seems like a no-brainer for any side involved in the negotiations.

The Englishman is a product of the Leicester City academy and did superbly well to make his up through the ranks. Since getting into the first-team picture, there has been no stopping him as he’s shown time and again that he’s one of the best full-backs around. He excels with technical play but also has a burst of pace that would leave most players a mile behind.

His ability to dribble with the ball on the flank is impeccable while he puts in quite a shift for a side every time he steps out onto the pitch. Despite his age, he shows amazing maturity on the ball and his crosses from wide are the stuff of dreams for approaching strikers. It’s no wonder Jamie Vardy had such a good run this season.

Having represented England at all the youth levels, he was finally given his first international cap in September 2018 and since then, he’s gone on to make 6 appearances for the Three Lions. His contributions to the National side have been pivotal and he’s assured to be a mainstay in the England team for a long time to come.

The youngster made 36 appearances total for the Foxes this season and managed to notch up 5 assists. Although he didn’t actually get a goal in the season, he was involved in most of the good moments this Foxes team produced along the way. Keeping him must be one of their highest priorities going into what could be an extremely devastating transfer window.
