Can Tottenham do the unthinkable and win the Premier League without new additions?
Tottenham Hotspur’s lack of summer transfer activity has certainly raised a lot of eyebrows. After all, the club became the first team to fail to sign a single player during the recently concluded transfer window.
At the same time, it must be noted that Spurs have not lost any of their key first-team stars. So, with the current crop of players, can the Londoners launch a challenge for the title?
Tottenham have a number of talented stars in their squad. During his time as the club’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino has held on to most of his best players year after year.
Spurs have England captain Harry Kane, whose goal tally only increases with every passing year. Kane has now scored 20-plus goals in his last four seasons in the Premier League. The man is a goalscoring machine and it doesn’t look like he plans on stopping anytime soon.
The fact that Kane signed a new bumper six-year contract with the club, shows his willingness and determination to win the title with Tottenham. He could also be chasing Alan Shearer’s all-time record of 260 goals in the Premier League and there’s every chance he’ll beat it. The only element Spurs lack in the striker’s department is cover for Kane. Both Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen haven’t lived up to the expectations so far.
However, the midfield is what Spurs are all about. Pochettino possesses a flurry of top-quality midfielders in his ranks. The likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Eric Dier have all flourished under the Argentine manager. Pochettino signed Dele Alli three years ago from MK Dons and the midfielder has since gone on to become an integral part of the squad.
Meanwhile, Eriksen is Pochettino’s magician in the middle of the park. Waving his wand, the Dane often runs the show and pulls the strings for the club. His passing abilities are unrivalled in the squad, with Eriksen proving to be Spurs’ main source of supply over the years.
Spurs also possess immense depth in the midfield. The likes of Lucas Moura, Moussa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko can grace the field whenever needed. Spurs also have a number of top defenders in their squad in the form of Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies.

Their back-four looked solid and well-drilled over the last season and with Hugo Lloris standing between the sticks, Spurs are capable of going for that title. Once the January transfer window opens, Pochettino could consider dipping into the market. But for now, Spurs certainly possess the quality and the class to go on and clinch the title.
