Timo Werner should snub Manchester United and join Liverpool

Timo Werner is a force to reckon with in world football. The former Stuttgart man has been a revelation as a striker for RB Leipzig over the last few years, scoring an amazing 21 goals in his debut campaign for the Bundesliga side. However, in his second season, he struggled as he netted a mere 13 goals but added 8 assists as Leipzig finished 5th in the Bundesliga and outside the Champions League spots.

But things are back to normal with Werner in incredible form, scoring 10 goals in 16 appearances this season. While the 22-year-old has expressed his desire to play for Manchester United, Liverpool does lead the race according to the Metro.

However, ESPN adds that Bayern Munich are also joining Jurgen Klopp in his quest for the young striker but lag behind both the Reds and Manchester United.

Werner himself has a massive choice to make as both Liverpool and the Red Devils are among the best Premier League teams and among the top teams in the world. However, the German ace must join a club where he would have a solid chance of flourishing.

With Jose Mourinho out of the picture and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking over as their caretaker boss, Manchester United are in no position to make a move for a young and promising forward. The 22-year-old has his whole career ahead of him. Given what’s already happened to Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, Werner would be wise to not make the same mistake.

However, now that Mourinho isn’t in charge, things could go differently for the two young forwards but it all depends on who takes the hot-seat next. With Mauricio Pochettino (via the Metro) and even Zinedine Zidane (via ESPN) reported to be top targets, things could get interesting next summer.

Liverpool, on the other hand, could be the perfect team for Timo Werner, especially since reports have been linking their main striker Roberto Firminio with a move to Barcelona (via the Express). The Brazilian has been vital to Jurgen Klopp’s plans over the last few seasons and while he has struggled to find the net this season, the 26-year-old is still a key man. However, if he does end up leaving, few players could replace him better than the 22-year-old Timo Werner.

The German international’s speed and finishing ability combined with his link-up play make him a lethal No. 9 for any side. And while he would take time to adjust to the Premier League, his connection with Naby Keita could make things much easier for both sides.
