Liverpool have been linked with a move for Lorenzo Insigne, should they take the plunge?

Lorenzo Insigne, a tiny Italian attacker in exceptional form for Napoli ever since his return from his multiple loan moves with his Pescara one, really showing what the winger could do.

He finished the Serie B season with 20 goals and 14 assists in just 38 appearances, which is a stunning return for any player. But for Lorenzo Insigne, it showed that things were only just starting, as that was his final loan move with Napoli opting to take a chance on Lorenzo Il Magnifico as he is lovingly called.

While he is diminutive, Insigne is fast, talented and beyond skilful with the ball going forward for Napoli.

Not only that his creativity is only limited by his mind, and his eye for a pass is simply incredible. But as time has passed, the 27-year-old has adapted to the times and become scorer of lethal goals at crucial times.

This season alone, Insigne has scored three goals in the Champions League, all three against Liverpool and PSG, with two against the latter.

However, it’s showed how important these goals were as it gave Napoli a fighting chance to qualify for the Champions League last-16. But fate had other ideas and Napoli crashed out, into the Europa League.

Now rumour mongers have revealed that the odds have been slashed in favour of the 27-year-old moving over to Anfield in January. Paddy Power, a premium betting site have slashed the odds with Liverpool the 7/1 favourites as they look to strengthen their position in both the Champions League and the Premier League.

The Mirror further confirms the same, even going on to add that thanks to new UEFA rules, Insigne could even play for Liverpool in the knockout stages.

However, the question for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, is do they actually need Lorenzo Insigne?

They do have the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri to play as potential wingers, and thus clearly don’t have space for the £58 million man. The Italian has, however, been in fine form, outscoring both Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri, with 10 goals and a further five assists in all competitions for Napoli.

But given that Jurgen Klopp has already revealed that he won’t be spending heavily in January, a move might not take place or even be required.
