Premier League Opinion: 2 realistic PL landing spots for Jerome Boateng

According to a recent report by The Sun, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have informed German international centre-half that he’s free to leave in search of a different challenge at the end of the season with Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United said to be very keen on his services.

The club president is said to have personally informed Boateng that he is required to leave at the end of the campaign with a lot of factors owing to this decision by the club.

The 30-year-old has been a Bayern Munich player since 2011 when he joined from Manchester City. Since making the move to Germany though, his development as a footballer was rapid and the amount of time he took to really grow into a mature, well-rounded centre-half was quite minimal.

He’s been utilised as a centre-half or as a full-back on occasion as well and despite his intimidating frame, he does possess a good amount of pace as well.

Extremely well built and strong in the air, Boateng has a history of scoring key goals from set-pieces. His leaps in the box from corners and free-kicks can have devastating results and although he isn’t the most mobile or dynamic defender in the world, he has a good footballing brain which allows him to inevitably be in the right place at the right time.

Having come through the ranks at the Hertha Berlin youth academy, he was eventually promoted to the Berlin first-team in the 06-07 Bundesliga season. After impressing for much of the season, he was bought by Hamburg which is where is really managed to make a name for himself as a top quality defender.

Jerome Boateng

Having been one of the best players in the team that season, the veteran centre-half was lucky enough to earn a move to the Premier League with Manchester City. His time at City wasn’t a very successful one but it was good enough for Bayern Munich to be piqued by his attributes and the rest is history.

Here are the 2 PL clubs who should make a move for Jerome Boateng in the summer:

Arsenal

The Gunners have been on the lookout for a world-class centre-half for a while now and although Sokratis has stepped up to the plate on occasion, the addition of an experienced centre-half would certainly go a long way in helping Arsenal reach a defensive level of comfort in the Premier League and Boateng is the ideal man for the job.

Manchester United

The fact that he’s a former Manchester City player probably won’t have any part to play in the deal if United do decide to target Boateng. His presence in the back and ability to bring the ball out from defence will suit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s playing style and it could end up being an excellent move.
