Why Tottenham fans should not be worried about the lack of summer signings
Tottenham and Burnley are the only Premier League sides that are yet to complete any signings this summer. Spurs fans must be getting a little nervy, given their side’s lack of arrivals while other clubs like Liverpool have embarked on spending sprees. However, there are enough reasons why fans at White Hart Lane shouldn’t be worried.
1. Mauricio Pochettino’s recent comments
According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Spurs will indeed sign new players before the summer transfer window closes. For the second summer running, Tottenham have travelled to the USA for their pre-season with no new arrivals. The Argentine said:
“Be sure that we are going to do some movement but like always, we’re working hard. No rash decisions. I’m not worried.”
However, the World Cup has further complicated issues. The transfer market has been abuzz after the tournament in Russia, as most players focused on helping their national sides to global triumph. Tottenham had nine players in the World Cup semifinals, with Hugo Lloris, Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele.
Hence, it goes without saying that these players will essay key roles for the club in the new season as well.
2. Tottenham key players signing new contracts
The club seems to be more keen on holding down its current players rather than signing new players. Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Davinson Sanchez, Erik Lamela and Michel Vorm have all signed new long-term deals.
Pochettino emphasized the need to retain Spurs’ current players, saying;
“And of course, very happy with players who have signed new contracts. That’s like signing five new players.”
3. Evolution not Revolution
No key first-team members have been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane. While the likes of Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente could be headed for the exit doors, Tottenham look likely to hold onto most, if not all, of the squad members who helped the side to a top-four finish last season.

In fact, the Spurs squad doesn’t need radical rebuilding. They merely require squad players to add depth, cover and competition for places, as Tottenham must compete on all fronts next season. The puzzle is almost complete, but there are a few minor tweaks and changes required to turn Spurs from perennial bottlers to champions.
Hence, there is no need for Tottenham fans to worry.
