Three players who saved Game Week 3 after a rollercoaster of Premier League matches

For most Fantasy Premier League managers around the world, GW3 was a train wreck. It was a week where the most popular captain choices more or less failed, clean sheets were wiped out and popular players like Richarlison got sent off.

All these events accumulated together to give an average score of just 50 points, one of the lowest seen in more than a season. But even in the darkest of times, certain heroes rose to protect the people of their realm. We look at three such heroes from GW3, who saved the week for their respective owners when there was no hope left.

Marcos Alonso

Newcastle United have traditionally been a tough place for Chelsea to visit as the Blues had lost at St. James Park on each of their last four visits. But when Marcos Alonso is in a mood to wreak havoc, no record is safe. Although the Magpies were quite compact and didn’t allow spaces to attack, one of Alonso’s darts into the box earned him a penalty that Eden Hazard dispatched.

Even after Newcastle equalized, Chelsea looked dangerous and the curly-haired Spaniard was at the heart of the winning goal. A dangerous free-kick into the box fell to Alonso and his wayward shot was deflected in his own net by DeAndre Yedlin. With these 2 assists, Alonso bagged 11 points and has rewarded his owners for the third game week running. Alonso, who currently earns wages in the region of £90,000-a-week,  has already registered 4 assists. And with upcoming fixtures against the likes of Bournemouth, Cardiff City and West HamUnited, one can expect clean sheets as well as more attacking returns from him.

Aleksander Mitrovic

In a week where almost all big names like Sergio Aguero, Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang blanked, Mitrovic‘s owners had a game week to remember. The Serb scored two headers in Fulham’s 4-2 win over Burnley which resulted in 16 fantasy points. He is clearly the talisman of Jokanovic’s team and was denied the hattrick by the post.

With his ownership at only 9%, he is still a big differential in the game. Fulham’s next 3 fixtures are certainly not the easiest as they travel to Brighton and Manchester City but if you have Mitrovic, hold him for now because he is capable of plucking a chance out of thin air and rewarding his loyal FPL managers with more points.

Lucas Moura

Tottenham Hotspur’s matches between Manchester United and Fulham probably saw the biggest shock in the FPL universe. Owned by merely 4.5% people, Lucas Moura scored twice in a 3-0 win for Spurs and bagged all 3 bonus points.

The two goals and bonus points took Moura to 15 points. With this massive haul, he should be on every FPL managers’ radar – particularly those who are looking to offload Richarlison. The Everton man was sent off against Bournemouth and Moura seems like a great replacement. Spurs face a gritty Watford side next but the only downside to Moura’s move is that Son Heung-min will return after the international break.
