Liverpool player ratings vs Red Star Belgrade

Liverpool romped home with an emphatic 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade in their matchday three clash of the Champions League at Anfield.

The visitors never really threatened to cause the home team any significant worries and Roberto Firmino opened the scoring in the 20th-minute before Xherdan Shaqiri set up Mohamed Salah for the second, just before half time.

Salah ran the show in the second half as Liverpool continued to maintain their stranglehold on the proceedings. The Egyptian wizard converted from the penalty spot in the 51st-minute and completed his hat-trick with another neat finish, ten minutes before the final whistle.

The victory puts Jurgen Klopp’s men at the top of Group C with 6 points, just ahead of Napoli who were held to a 2-2 draw by PSG.

Alisson (6/10)

Barely touched the ball with his hands, was a mere spectator as Liverpool completely dominated the game.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (7/10)

Solid at the back and bombed forward with pace in the second half.

Joe Gomez (7/10)

Showed nice composure to deal with a rather threatening attack and did not have too much to do thereafter.

Virgil van Dijk (7/10)

Won a few headers and looked comfortable in possession; not really put to test by a rather submissive opposition.

Andrew Robertson (7/10)

Set up Firmino for the opening goal with a brilliant low cross and was always a lively presence down the left.

Georginio Wijnaldum (8/10)

Another superb display by the Dutchman in the heart of midfield. Cut out the attacks, won back possession and kept things ticking with his wonderful passing.

Fabinho (7.5/10)

Looked a bit rusty and off the pace in the opening stages but grew in confidence as the game progressed and dominated the midfield; occasionally contributed to the build-up play in the attacking third.

Xherdan Shaqiri (8.5/10)

Played a part in the build-up to the opener and set up Salah for the second with a sumptuous touch that spoke of pure class and confidence.

Roberto Firmino (7/10)

Looked uncomfortable and lost in a No.10 role but slowly grew into the game after scoring the opening goal; played well after that.

Sadio Mane (7/10)

A hilarious and eventful night for the Senegalese forward. Won a penalty, missed a penalty and could have scored a goal; nevertheless, a lively presence down the left and combined effectively with Robertson.
