Fantastic Kane, Wonderful Trippier – Best and the worst rated England players vs Panama

England squad

Captain Harry Kane is leading the Golden Boot race after bagging a hat-trick in a first half rout of minnows Panama. Kane becomes only the third English player to reach that feat after David Platt and Gary Lineker to score a hat-trick at the competition.

Here are the player ratings as England eased into Round of 16;

Harry Kane, 9 -Man of the Match (MOTM)

Emphatically scored the penalty and produced a mirror image of the penalty to bag himself a brace before half-time. In the second half, Kane deflected Loftus-Cheek’s shot past Panama keeper Penedo before being hauled off at the hour mark.

John Stones, 8.8

He scored three goals in Manchester City’s group stage last season and he was at it again here with a brace. Shaked off his marker to scored the first and scored the rebound after Penedo had kept Sterling’s close-range header out. Did well defending but needs to improve.

Jess Lingard, 8.5

960 1

Was a constant menace earning England the first penalty before he scored a curling effort from 25 yards out. He linked up well with Sterling in the lead up to his goal. Great all-round performance.

Kieran Trippier, 8.2

The king of assists, with the Tottenham full-back getting involved in three goals. Trippier gives the team more width and excellent crossing. What a right leg!

Kyle Walker, 8.0

Made an excellent interception early on. Has recovered from the penalty incident against Tunisia. Sharp passing ability and pace are an asset.

Jordan Henderson, 7.8

The Three Lions vice-captain has cemented his role in the starting line up ahead of Dier. Almost converted from a volleyed effort and is emerging as a leader on the pitch too. His over the top balls are lovely to watch.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, 7.5

Industrious but had a relatively quiet game playing out on the right after impressing in his cameo against Tunisia. Failed to do enough to suggest he can keep Dele Alli out of the side.

Raheem Sterling, 7.5

This was a game where Sterling needed a goal to boost his morale but failed to register his name on the score sheet with Penedo doing great to deny him a chance after he raced clear.

Harry Maguire, 7.3

Looked nervous at times. Went close to scoring a header but there are still questions about his defensive work. Decent here though largely untested.

Ashley Young, 7.2

No drama, no fuss. Put in his shift as was required of him. It would be interesting to see how a left footed player would fair on in that position or how Young performs against more experienced and talented sides like Belgium.

Jordan Pickford, 7.0

Pickford wasn’t really tested but did well to keep out Panama. A much more daunting task awaits against Belgium.

Substitutes

Jamie Vardy, 6.3

Nothing much to do, as he was introduced with England well in control and just winding up the game.

Fabian Delph, 6.2

Did little to suggest he should be starting the next game but England was already enjoying a 5-0 lead.

Danny Rose, 6.0

Not involved a lot after his introduction midway through the second half. Saw the side through the last 20 minutes.
