Max Verstappen and Red Bu have absolutely dominated the 2022 season – but who has won the Driver of the Day award most times?
The Driver of the Day award is one of the most expected events at each race during the F1 season. It has a direct involvement of fans as they get to vote online and pick who they feel was the driver during a particular race. Do you know which driver won this award the number of times last season?
Well, the F1 2022 season was completely dominated by Max Verstappen and Red Bull and it doesn’t come as a surprise that it’s Verstappen who won the award most times last season. He notched a record 15 Grand Prix victories in 2022, a second consecutive world title, and also the most Driver of the Day awards. The Dutchman won the award five times in 2022, courtesy of early-season successes in Imola and Miami and later in Hungary, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Besides Verstappen, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc claimed four Driver of the Day awards in 2022 while Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton won it thrice each.
How is the F1 Driver of the Day chosen?
Fans can only vote and have a direct say in the F1 driver of the day awards at every race during the season. Voting opens during the latter stages of each race and closes when the race ends. Fans just need to go to the voting page on the official F1 website and cast vote once the window opens.
However, drivers do not receive a trophy even if they are adjudged the ‘driver of the day’ and there is no financial incentive either. It is simply a recognition of a driver’s performance from the viewers and fans.
