Here’s everything you need to know about Tim Tramnitz – Red Bull’s newest recruit
Red Bull has welcomed Tim Tramnitz, a young German driver, into their talent development program, with aspirations to see him compete in Formula 3 in the upcoming season. At just 18 years old, Tramnitz is presently competing in Formula Regional Championship and has been turning heads with his strong showings, securing two victories and standing on the podium six times in 2023. He will become part of the same team where another talented German, Sebastian Vettel, emerged through the junior program and went on to achieve four Formula 1 world championships.
Tim Tramnitz’s upcoming move in his young career involves transitioning into the Formula 3 category. He has already completed four days of testing with the Dutch team MP Motorsport. On his promotion to the Red Bull junior team, Tramnitz expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Being a part of the Red Bull junior team offers me entirely new opportunities. Recently, we were unsure about our ability to progress to Formula 3, but now I’m eagerly anticipating this new challenge.”

The Red Bull Junior Team is a driver development initiative managed by Red Bull GmbH, the energy drink company, with the aim of identifying potential future racing talents in open-wheel racing. In a similar vein, the Red Bull Driver Search, which has since concluded, was an American adaptation of this concept and took place in 2005.
Members of the Junior Team receive financial backing and sponsorship from Red Bull as they compete in lower-level racing categories. This program was established in 2001 as Red Bull’s European driver development program, offering funding and assistance to promising young racers.
Notably, in 2004, Christian Klien became the first Red Bull Junior to compete in Formula One, and in 2008, Sebastian Vettel achieved the distinction of being the first Red Bull Junior to win a Formula One Grand Prix, which was the Italian Grand Prix. Two years later, in 2010, Vettel further made history by becoming the first graduate of the Red Bull Junior program to secure the Formula One World Championship.
Tim Tramnitz is now part of Red Bull’s extensive roster of promising young drivers in their junior program. This includes talents like Liam Lawson, Jak Crawford, Enzo Fittipaldi, and Sebastian Montoya. Red Bull’s program has a history of nurturing successful Formula 1 drivers, with Sebastian Vettel, current three-time world champion Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo, Carlos Sainz, and many others having emerged from it. Tim Tramnitz is actively participating in the Formula Regional European Championship as a member of R-ace GP. Notably, he secured the runner-up position in both the 2021 Italian F4 and ADAC F4 championships, showcasing his talent in the world of motorsport. Tramnitz is also associated with the Red Bull Junior Team, a program dedicated to nurturing young racing prospects.
In April 2023, he received an invitation to take part in the young drivers’ test for Formula E, which was held in Berlin and organized by ABT Cupra. Furthermore, in October 2023, Tim Tramnitz confirmed his continued membership with the Red Bull Junior Team, signifying his ongoing journey as a promising talent in the racing world.
Tramnitz commenced his racing career in 2011, initially dipping his toes into local karting competitions. His early achievements included securing victory in the regional series based in Hamburg in 2013 and conquering the Northern German Kart-Challenge in 2014. In 2017, he reached a significant milestone by clinching his first, and to date, only title in the ADAC Kart Academy series.
This accomplishment led to his selection as a protege of the ADAC Stiftung Sport later that same year. Tramnitz continued his involvement in karting until 2019. It was during this year that he received a remarkable opportunity to test a Formula 4 car for the first time. This pivotal experience paved the way for his debut in single-seater racing, as he was officially announced to compete in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship in 2020. He joined the ranks of the US Racing team, marking a significant step in his racing career.
In 2021, Tramnitz staged a comeback in both the ADAC F4 and Italian F4 championships, donning the colors of US Racing once more. His performance in both series was nothing short of remarkable, as he earned an impressive total of nine podium finishes during his partial participation in the Italian series. Notably, this included two victories at the Circuit Paul Ricard and Red Bull Ring.
Additionally, in the ADAC F4 series, he stood atop the podium on five separate occasions. Following this string of successes, Tramnitz took the next step in his career, transitioning to the Formula Regional European Championship in 2022. This time, he was part of the Trident team, marking a significant move up the motorsport ladder.
