Neel Jani Career

Neel Jani, born on 8th December 1983 in Rorschach, Switzerland, embarked on his racing journey in 1998 through karting. Over the course of two years, he honed his skills before progressing to Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup in 2001. During the same period, he also participated in several races in the Italian Formula Renault.

In 2005, he seized the opportunity to compete in the GP2 Series with Racing Engineering. Following this, Jani ventured into the A1 Grand Prix series, proudly representing his home nation as part of A1 Team Switzerland. In the inaugural season, the team secured a remarkable silver medal for achieving second place.

With his talent gaining recognition, Jani was linked to a reserve Formula 1 seat with the Sauber team. However, he made the decision to return to GP2 in 2004 and continued his pursuit in the series the following year. In December 2005, he assumed the role of Scuderia Toro Rosso’s third driver, maintaining this position throughout the 2006 season. Subsequently, he ventured into the Champ Car championship to further advance his racing career.

In 2007, Jani joined the PKV Racing team in the Champ Car World Series. His dedication and skill set paved the way for an exciting sports car racing journey. In 2010, he affiliated himself with Rebellion Racing, a Swiss privateer team, and commenced full-time racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2012.

On 24th August 2017, an exciting new chapter unfolded as Jani announced his debut in the FIA Formula E Championship, showcasing his versatility and commitment to diverse racing disciplines. He returned to Formula E for the 2019–20 season two years later, once more signing with Porsche, and placed 20th in the standings.

Jani won the inaugural round of the 2021 World Endurance Championship at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium and then won in Bahrain while placing second overall after his return to the sport with Porsche. He finished third for the Porsche GT Team in the 24 Hours of Le Mans that same year as well.
