The Austrian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place from 08-10 July at the picturesque Red Bull Ring circuit

Red Bull F1 team provided a virtual tour of their home turf ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend. This is set to be the 41st edition of the Austrian GP – at one of the most scenic venues of the F1 calendar – the Red Bull Ring Circuit. The Austrian GP was first held in 1964 and has been a part of the F1 calendar in intervals till 2003. It made a comeback to the calendar in 2014 and has been a constant feature since then.

The Red Bull Ring is a motorsport race track in Spielberg, Austria. The race circuit was founded as Osterreichring and hosted the Austrian Grand Prix for eighteen consecutive years, from 1970 to 1987. It was later shortened, rebuilt, and renamed the A1-Ring (A Eins-Ring), and it hosted the Austrian Grand Prix again from 1997 to 2003.

Renamed the Red Bull Ring the track was reopened on 15 May 2011. Formula One returned to the circuit in the 2014 season. The Red Bull Ring circuit spans a length of 4.318 km, comprising 10 turns. It is an FIA Grade-1 licensed circuit.

The record for most wins at the Austrian GP is jointly held by three drivers – Jo Siffert, Alain Prost, and Max Verstappen, three titles each. McLaren and Ferrari are jointly the most successful constructors with six titles each. Carlos Sainz holds the record for fastest lap timing – 1:05.619 while driving for McLaren in 2020.

Where do things stand ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix?

Red Bull dominates the drivers’ championship standings despite a disappointing outing for Verstappen at Silverstone. Max Verstappen leads the standings with 181 points, followed closely by team-mate Sergio Perez on 147. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc occupies third place with 138 points ahead of British GP winner, Carlos Sainz – who is fourth with 127 points.

In the constructors’ championship, Red Bull leads the table with 328 points, and Ferrari is much behind in second place with 265 points. Mercedes have significantly reduced the gap between them and Ferrari. They occupy third place having earned 204 points.
