Lewis Hamilton’s DNF at the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix meant that it was the first season without a win in his Formula 1 career
The 2022 F1 season came to an end at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – a year Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton would definitely want to forget.
In a rather eventful first lap, Hamilton’s battle with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz appeared to have damaged the underside of his car.
However, it didn’t seem to affect his car until the very end of the race. Hamilton, who was cruising at P4, seemed to lose power and in the 55th lap, began facing gearshift issues. Hamilton said, “I’ve lost shifts, shifts aren’t working properly,” on the team radio.
The Brit was forced into the pits with just a couple of laps left – handing a very agonizing end to a disappointing season.
In the end, it was Max Verstappen who earned yet another victory. He was followed by Charles Leclerc and teammate Sergio Perez.
