Daniel Ricciardo was in attendance when Ayrton Senna won his last trophy for McLaren in 1993
Daniel Ricciardo‘s dream of placing his trophy just beside his hero, Ayrton Senna’s last one for McLaren, has finally been fulfilled. In a photo shared by ESPN on Twitter, Ricciardo can be seen placing his first trophy for McLaren just beside Senna’s last one for the team. Ricciardo’s trophy has now been given its forever home in the McLaren Technology Centre.
In 2021, Ricciardo became the first McLaren driver to claim a race victory in nine years. After lifting the trophy, Ricciardo said: “I mentioned that my trophy would be somewhere next to one of Senna’s and this is Senna’s from Adelaide ’93. I was at the race and that’s pretty damn wild. I’m nearly speechless. I’m going to put it there and am probably going to walk away before I start sobbing like a baby.” His dream has now finally materialised. Senna’s 1993 Australian triumph was his last in F1 before the Brazilian left McLaren to join Williams for the following season.
