Sergio Perez won the Driver of the Day at the Monaco GP 2022

Hardly a day after the Champions League final was delayed in the neighbouring country of France, the Monaco GP was delayed as well – due to wet weather.

Sergio Perez fended off threat from Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and teammate Max Verstappen to reign supreme at the Circuit de Monaco.

Having started at P3 after a qualifying mishap involving himself and Sainz, Perez took advantage after Monaco’s very own Charles Leclerc’s delayed pit stop strategy for intermediate tyres proved too costly.

The Mexican also went past Sainz to grab hold of P1.

In the end, Perez kept hold of P1. He was followed by Sainz, Verstappen and Leclerc. Hardly 5 seconds separated the four men.

At the presentation, an emotional Perez broke down.
