Max Verstappen registered his fifth win of the season at the Azerbaijan GP in Baku

Max Verstappen has scripted history yet another time in Formula One. At the Azerbaijan GP in Baku, Verstappen crossed the finish line first for the 25th time in his F1 career. On Sunday, he was 24 years and 255 days old, making him the youngest driver ever to win 25 GPs.

With this win, Verstappen overtakes Sebastian Vettel, who was 25 years and 103 days old when he won his 25th Grand Prix. Vettel did have two world championships to his name at the time of his 25th victory, while Verstappen has one at the moment.

After Vettel, the gap is more than three years to the next driver – Michael Schumacher. He scored his 25th victory only at the age of 28, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were both already 29 when they touched number 25.

Back in 2015, Verstappen became the youngest driver to start a World Championship race by entering the sport a year before the new licence restriction, joining Toro Rosso with Carlos Sainz as his teammate. He made his Grand Prix debut as a full-time driver at the 2015 Australian Grand Prix at the age of 17 years, 166 days — breaking Jaime Alguersuari’s existing record by almost two years.
