Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were involved in a first-lap crash at the British GP
The much-anticipated Silverstone GP, came to a halt in the very first lap after Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen crashed near the Copse corner.
Starting out as number 2 in the grid, Hamilton was a determined man from the word go, since it was his home.
The aggressive Hamilton continued making use of the slipstream from Verstappen who was going ahead, and kept coming hard at the Dutchman.
The pair kept going side-by-side for a while, and just when they went past the Copse corner, Verstappen’s right rear wheel clipped Hamilton’s front left.
The impact was so hard that Verstappen’s right rear wheel popped off, and his car rammed into the tyre barricade. The car was left entangled in the barriers.
Who is to blame for the Silverstone debacle: Hamilton or Verstappen?
Verstappen was the one who started out in front. Hamilton kept charging at him right from the beginning, trying to go on the inside in the bends a couple of times.
A very similar thing happened a couple of weeks ago when Sergio Perez tried the same with Lando Norris. Norris was handed a 5-second penalty.
There was not much of a difference here as well. The only point of argument against Verstappen might be him trying to overtake Hamilton in and around the outside while Hamilton was probably in the lead (which he was not).
Hamilton was handed a 10-second penalty.
