Football icon Pele passed away on December 29 at the age of 82 in a Brazilian hospital in Sao Paulo – Damon Hill pays his tribute.
Former F1 driver Damon Hill paid homage to football legend Pele on Twitter after the news of the Brazilian’s death was officially confirmed. Hill shared a picture from the 1996 Brazilian Grand Prix, where Pele was the guest of honour and he handed over the winners’ trophy to Hill. In the picture, Hill can be seen celebrating with the trophy, with Pele clapping on and third-place holder Michael Schumacher is visible standing on the podium.
“I have a special place in my heart for Brazil. It showed me so much love after Senna died. So this is a very special photo. RIP Pele e muito obrigado”, Hill wrote on Twitter, paying tribute to the departed soul. Pele passed away at the age of 82 in a Brazilian hospital after suffering from persistent illness for a long time. In 2021, he had to undergo surgery to remove a tumour from his colon at the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo and had to be readmitted last month. He passed away in the same hospital last night.
