Vicente Luque wanted a piece of Nate Diaz but Jorge Masvidal seems set for a rematch soon

Vicente Luque was the latest star to feature on the WERMMA show. The 28-year-old was coming off back-to-back wins over Randy Brown and Niko Price and wanted to fight soon too.

Luque was keen on taking on Nate Diaz, however, that wasn’t to be. Diaz hasn’t fought since losing the BMF clash against Jorge Masvidal, but a rematch is in the works.

Masvidal, for his part, lost the chance to become UFC Welterweight champion. Kamaru Usman kept hold of the title but a BMF rematch could be one of the biggest fights of the year.

Luque opened up on missing out on this clash but understood why Diaz vs Masvidal 2 was set up:

“The first fight was pretty decisive. I think Masvidal showed it. He went in there and won I think every round.

“I don’t know if it makes sense but it’s a fight that people want to see. I know their styles match well in a way and I get it that the fight is going to happen.”

Want to fight either of them

While there is no clarity on who Luque faces next, he wanted to take either of Masvidal or Diaz on.

The 28-year-old added that he was going to keep working at it and ensure that people won’t wait to fight him:

“I would love to fight either of them.

“Think that I match up really well with either of them. It would be a hell of a fight but it didn’t happen, so I am gonna keep working my way up.

“I know eventually I am going to get to that point where they are gonna want to call my name, so I am going to wait for that.”

While Luque waits for another fight, he did share some of his predictions. The 28-year-old backed Paulo Costa to defeat Israel Adesanya while he believed Khabib Nurmagomedov would sneak past Justin Gaethje.
