Merab Dvalishvili doesn’t see himself fight teammate Aljamain Sterling for the title ever
The Schmozone podcast had a fantastic guest in UFC Bantamweight star Merab Dvalishvili.
The Georgian is on a five-fight win streak and was aiming to get more Ws under his belt. Dvalishvili also believed that his teammate, Aljamain Sterling, would get the better of Petr Yan.
Yan is the current UFC Bantamweight champion but will defend his title against the Funk Master. While Dvalishvili is still some way off challenging for the gold, he was still asked about tackling Sterling.
Sterling might not be the champion now but Dvalishvili had an incredible response to all this:
“I will change weight class. We are not fighting, we are never going to fight. Actually, doesn’t make sense because he will still beat me anyway.
“So, I will go down to 125.”
Dvalishvili was also asked about who his toughest opponent in the MMA world was. The 29-year-old has 16 wins under his belt with four losses.
While he is on a great winning streak, Dvalishvili was extremely humble and claimed all his opponents had been tough so far:
“Toughest opponent? Everybody, everybody. No one is easy. I believe in myself and I am training hard and I am ready for everybody, no problem.”
Just want to fight
Dvalishvili was also asked about what his plans for the future was. The Georgian, however, was keen on slowing things down and not thinking too ahead of himself.
The 29-year-old claimed he just wanted to get another fight in. He was training hard and was ready to take someone on next month too, and it didn’t matter where the UFC event was.
Dvalishvili confirmed that picking up UFC gold was his ultimate goal. However, he wasn’t rushing it and was willing to wait a couple of years too.
The Georgian did have some good news regarding his career though. He had been working in construction despite getting a UFC contract but after his last fight, he has now become a full-time fighter.
He can now fully concentrate on his UFC career and it will be interesting to see how he does in the coming months.
