Daniel Cormier vs Stipe Miocic is the main event at UFC 252 and Joe Giannetti predicted how this would go
Joe Giannetti was the latest guest speaking on MMA Unhinged as the 25-year-old spoke about UFC 252 and the match between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.
This will be the third clash between the two stars and Cormier has stated that this would be his last fight. The winner becomes the UFC Heavyweight champion with each star having one win over their rival.
Miocic is the current champion but DC coached Giannetti on The Ultimate Fighter.
Giannetti was asked how the fight would go, and he believed his ex-coach could fix a lot of his mistakes from the previous clash that he lost:
“I think it’s going to be a lot like the second fight. I think he’s [Cormier] going to fix those mistakes he made and that he’s admitted he made. He was winning the striking until the fourth round and if he had wrestled a little bit more. I think he would have taken that W home.
“I think that’s exactly what’s going to happen.”
Giannetti also claimed that people were confused that Cormier wasn’t going to strike but he didn’t believe that was the case.
The rising star claimed that Cormier would strike and wrestle a lot more, and that was something that Miocic might not be ready for.
Smaller Octagon helps Cormier
Giannetti added that Cormier would have the advantage since they would be fighting in the small cage at the Apex. However, Giannetti believed the only way for Miocic to keep Cormier at bay was to use more power in his shot.
“I don’t know how it’s going to end, but I think if DC makes those adjustments he takes it, it’s going to be a crazy fight.”
This isn’t the only big fight on the card with the undefeated Sean O’Malley taking on Marlon Vera. Giannetti was asked how this fight would also go and he said that he loved O’Malley but wasn’t a fan of what all Sugar would say outside of the Octagon.
However, the 25-year-old respected O’Malley’s skills in the Octagon and backed Sugar to get the win with the right plan:
“Chito will take one to land one while O’Malley will get out of the way. If he keeps landing and Chito doesn’t counter, it’s going to be a quick night for Chito.
“I think O’Malley’s probably going to take that one but Chito’s never been finished.”
Vera needs to be at his best if he is to defeat O’Malley. Both these fights are going to be incredible, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
