Frankie Edgar claimed Dustin Poirier is more mature when compared to his previous outing against Conor McGregor

Frankie Edgar was the latest guest on the Schmozone Podcast and he was asked about the huge Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier rematch.

Edgar is a former UFC Lightweight champion and is considered as a legend in the business. The 39-year-old will be in action against Cory Sandhagen at UFC Fight Night 184 and that is going to be an interesting clash.

While Edgar is preparing for his fight, he also gave his thoughts about Poirier vs McGregor. McGregor already has a win over Poirier from their previous fight and Edgar was asked if the previous result would have a role in all this.

However, Edgar believed that Poirier had improved a lot and he would be able to deal with it:

“It’s definitely in there. You cannot forget something like that. It is all on how Dustin is going to react to it and is he going to let it bother him or motivate him? Everyone deals with it in a different way.

“I do think Dustin seems much more mature as a fighter and hopefully, he will be able to contain all that stuff.”

A fight for the fans

While Edgar wouldn’t go into who would get the win, he did believe this would be a completely different fight from the previous outing.

Poirier is coming off the back of a huge win over Dan Hooker and Edgar backed his friend to perform well:

“I think it’s a totally different fight than the first time.

“I think Dustin has improved so much physically, mentally, you know, matured so much. Conor as well, I mean, what he’s been a two-time champion since then.

“That is definitely a marquee fight and I am excited to see it. Dustin is a buddy of mine, kind of, we trained in the past a long time ago and I’d like him to do well but it’s going to be a fight for the fans.”

McGregor, for his part, has claimed that this is going to be a brilliant performance from him. The Notorious One has been posting a lot of training photos too and this should be one of the biggest fights in 2021.
