Why Everton should go all out for David Neres in the summer?

Earlier this week at Santiago Bernabeu, Ajax starlet David Neres gave the world a glimpse of his talent, when he scored the second goal in his team’s 4-1 Champions League victory over Real Madrid.

Ajax dumped out Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16 after smashing them at the Bernabeu and winning on aggregate. It was a collective performance from the Eredivisie club that saw them do the unthinkable at the holders’ home soil.

David Neres was a part of the Ajax team that also had the likes of Dusan Tadic, Hakim Ziyech, Frenkie De Jong, Daley Blind, Matthijs De Ligt starring on Tuesday night in Madrid. Seeing the Brazilian put in a fantastic display in the Champions League over both the legs against Madrid, Everton should make a move for him in the summer.

Everton have lacked quality and ruthlessness going forward this season despite having the likes of Cenk Tosun, Bernard, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Richarlison and Theo Walcott. Given the attacking riches the Toffees have, they have managed only 39 goals till date. While Marco Silva’s side have lacked a prolific striker, experienced players like Walcott and Bernard are yet to live up to the expectations at Goodison Park.

Walcott, in particular, has looked off the pace and very predictable this campaign. The former Arsenal man seems to have lost a yard of pace with which he used to torment defences previously in the Premier League. Ademola Lookman is yet to have his fair share of chances this season, with Silva apparently lacking a bit of belief in handing starts for the youngster.

More firepower in the attack is indeed required over the summer if Silva’s side are to challenge for a place in the top six next season. And Neres could just be the player that gives the Everton attacking unit more flair and creativity.

In Neres, Silva would get a winger who is capable of playing on either side of the pitch and also as a no.10. The 22-year-old is a pacey, agile, dynamic and unpredictable player who has all the tricks in his locker to bamboozle defenders. He is direct in his approach, making him the real deal and the magical attacker that could light up Goodison Park if given the chance.

The technically-gifted Brazilian has made 37 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 6 goals and supplying 13 assists in return. Neres has shown he can produce the goods on the bigger stage as well, impressing the bystanders with his performances in the Champions League this term.

Silva definitely needs to try adding more goals to his side over the summer if Everton are to challenge the ‘Big Six’ next season and Neres ticks a lot of boxes.
